New partnership set to bolster cyber capabilities for Canadian businesses and individuals

PUBLISHED August 17, 2023
Cyber Security Canada NFP (CSC-NFP) has announced a new partnership with social impact company WithYouWithMe (WYWM) to help organisations across Canada fortify their data and IT systems and gain CyberSecure certification.
This new partnership will see CSC-NFP support hundreds of businesses with tailored recommendations to address their cyber gaps either through the hiring of skilled cyber talent from WYWM’s diverse user community or the upskilling of internal staff via CSC-NFP's robust cyber training pathway.

CSC-NFP plays a crucial role in checking organisations’ cyber capabilities against the requirements of the modern threat landscape and the government’s CyberSecure certification. The program will ensure Canada’s small to medium-sized businesses gain the skills needed to actively maintain the defensive and offensive protection of their networks.

Victor Beitner, President of CSC-NFP said, both CSC-NFP and WYWM are firmly committed to fortifying the digital landscape of Canada and ensuring all individuals gain access to the skills they need to keep networks secure and businesses running smoothly.

Our mission at CSC-NFP is to educate, empower, and equip individuals and organisations with the essential skills and knowledge needed to safeguard against ever-evolving cyber threats. We collaborate with businesses, educational institutions, and government agencies to foster a culture of security awareness and resilience.

“We offer a robust curriculum that combines theoretical knowledge with practical experience, covering an expansive array of topics - from basic cyber hygiene to advanced incident response and system recovery. Coupled with WYWM’s cyber training, this program will offer businesses a valuable opportunity to ensure their capabilities are in line with CyberSecure demands,” said Mr Beitner.

WYWM offers free digital training programs to individuals from underserved communities including veterans, Indigenous peoples, refugees, former first responders, neurodiverse individuals and military spouses across a range of in-demand areas including software engineering, data analysis and cyber security.

Greg Hanniman, Chief Information Security Officer for WYWM said smaller organisations who are unable to maintain a large cyber workforce must proactively upskill in order to keep up.

“WYWM look forward to working alongside Canadian businesses to ensure they gain the talent and skills they need to fortify and future-proof their operations,” said Mr Hanniman.

“We’re proud to be contributing to the upskilling of diverse individuals across Canada and helping them find meaningful careers through this new partnership with CSC-NFP. Building those critical digital skills amongst a broader population will ensure organisations are benefiting from a diverse range of perspectives, life experiences and cognitive abilities when combatting cyber threats,” said Mr Hanniman.

CSC-NFP and WYWM will be hosting an information session in October of this year to share details of the partnership and advise how businesses or individuals eager to upskill in cyber can get involved.

Details of the event are coming soon.
