Meet Angela

Angela is a mother and military spouse who has spent most of her career working as a manager in the hospitality industry. Her husband’s postings across North America meant she and her family moved eight times in 15 years.

While she enjoyed being a manager, Angela was constantly having to find new roles and companies in each location. Hoping to find a more flexible career that could fit into her family’s lifestyle, she began looking to pivot to a role in tech.

Angela's journey

Angela’s husband received an email from Military Family Services saying they were hosting an event with several companies who were eager to hire military spouses. Angela decided to attend and came across WithYouWithMe.

Former Training Manager, Caleb Walker was hosting an information session about online training courses, advocating for military spouses to get involved. Inspired by his enthusiasm, Angela joined the platform immediately.

After completing her psychometric and aptitude testing, she received an email to book in with the Career Success team. Following her welcome call, Angela decided to enter the Data Pathway and Digital Project Management Pathway.

“I knew that I needed to learn some new skills, especially those that were common for remote roles. After discussing this with Career Success, I decided that Data was a good place to start as it’s an area that can be applied to any business, regardless of the sector.”

A fresh start and a fulfilling career

Initially Angela was looking for a Data Analyst role but soon after she’d completed her training, an internal role became available at WithYouWithMe in the same Career Success team that had been supporting her.

“I’m highly extroverted and having worked in hospitality for so long, I already had strong people skills. I think I was a 99% match!”

Angela’s management experience meant she was soon promoted to Head of Career Success, and she set about connecting with as many students as possible, building relationships and encouraging them to engage with the training pathways just as she had.

“I started out as a student, so I had this unique perspective where I knew what people needed at what time. Helping other military spouses and people across all of our diverse user groups – that gave me pure joy!”

Even though she hadn't become a Data Analyst, Angela found a rewarding career helping individuals from diverse backgrounds find meaningful employment – and she utilised her newfound data skills every day to keep track of users and ensure they were progressing with testing and training.
Quotes - twilight lavender
I have a passion for helping others unlock their potential and assisting them while they transition into their own new career in tech... I try to remind people – you don’t know what is going happen, you just have to be keen to learn, lean in and absorb everything you can from the training programs. People who are excited and eager to start learning, those are the ones that really succeed in our programs.”

A commitment to lifelong learning

Two years later, Angela is still working at WithYouWithMe as Head of Delivery for North America. While she’s based in the US, her role is entirely remote meaning that with her most recent move – for the first time in 15 years – Angela was able to keep the same role.

“Having a remote role that I love has been a gamechanger for me, especially being a mum and a military spouse.”

As someone who loves to learn and grow her skillset, another thing Angela likes about working at WithYouWithMe is the consistent opportunities she’s given to work across different areas of the business.

“I learn something every day in this job, whether it’s from our clients, other team members or individual users. I’m exposed to new areas of the business that allow me to continue growing and I’m always excited to lean in and learn.”

"We say it all the time – be fierce – what does that really mean? To me it means having that chance to move outside the lines and say ‘I’m interested in that, and I can do it’ and then being given the opportunity to try.”
