What is diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace?

Diversity, equity and inclusion are three closely linked values held by organisations who seek to support a broad range of people to succeed within their workforce and ensure all employees feel valued, including people of different races, ethnicities, religions, abilities, genders and sexual orientations.

But what do each of these values mean?
  • Diversity refers to the different groups of people who are represented across the workforce and at each level of responsibility.
  • Equity refers to the provision of fair access to opportunity to support the advancement of different people. Where equality suggests that all people should be treated the same, equity takes into consideration a person’s unique circumstances, adjusting treatment accordingly so that the end result is equal.
  • Inclusion speaks to the way organisations embrace their people and enable them to make meaningful contributions by adapting physical environments, work processes or other meeting other requirements.

How can Potential underpin your DEI strategy?

Skills-based workforce management

Potential enables organisations to embed diversity, equity and inclusion into their workforce strategy by ensuring decisions made throughout the talent lifecycle are guided by data rather than personal opinions impacted by unconscious bias. Using a series of psychometric, aptitude and skills assessments, Potential identifies people's technical skills as well as their natural strengths and matches them to open job roles, projects or career paths they're likely to excel at. The platform then guides them through professional development pathways, designed to help them add value to their current role or prepare for the next one.

Essentially, we've created a data-lead approach to measuring and building human capability in a way that boosts DEI efforts, offers equal access to opportunity for all employees and cultivates an inclusive workplace culture.
